As part of one of the most agriculturally rich counties in California, Ripon is graced with an abundance of natural beauty and plenty of recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, camping, hiking or just relaxing in the sun.

San Joaquin County is the state's number one producer of asparagus and has dedicated thousands of acres of farmland to production of this crop. The area is also a major producer of grapes that are grown by the many wineries and vineyards that dot the region. San Joaquin County has become one of California's leading premium wine districts.

Students in the community attend the Ripon Unified School District. The district provides five elementary schools, one junior high, three special school programs and two high schools. Students seeking higher education have a wide array of schools to choose from. Located nearby is the University of the Pacific, California State University, Stanislaus - Stockton Center, Humphreys College and School of Law, National University and the San Joaquin Delta Community College.

Ripon is thriving with arts and culture. From museums and art galleries to theater and music halls, there is something for everyone. Popular spots include the Clarence Smit Museum, the Haggin Museum, San Joaquin County Historical Museum, and Stockton Children's Museum, the Stockton Symphony, San Joaquin County Ballet, and Stockton Civic Theater.

Residents have a number of festivals and events to enjoy from the Fantastic Fourth, Main Street Day, which is held every October and offers arts and crafts, tasty cuisines and other entertainment; to the annual tree lighting in November and the Taste of Ripon, a December event that allows local businesses to "give attendees a taste of their business".

Attractions unique to Ripon include Caswell State Park, home to one of the last remaining oak-riparian woodlands that features beaches, swimming, a campground and picnic facilities. San Joaquin County government maintains nine community parks that offer boating, camping, picnicking, swimming and organized sports. The nearby San Joaquin Delta features some of the best boating in the state. Other nearby communities offer opportunities for fun such as the county-owned and operated Micke Grove Park which offers a zoo, rides and an historical museum for all ages to enjoy.

The settlers of Ripon were the Laquisimne Indians of the many Yokut, meaning person or persons, tribes in the San Joaquin Valley. Originally known as Murphy's Ferry, Ripon was one of several river crossings that sprang up in 1850 to carry gold seekers and settlers to and from the Stanislaus River. Amplias B. Crooks established Ripon's center in 1874 with the development of the town's first store. Brooks was born in Ripon, Wisconsin and decided to name the city after his birthplace. Ripon was incorporated as a city in 1945.

Over the years, Ripon has experienced steady growth thanks to its quality of life and small-town atmosphere complimented by an abundance of parks and wide, tree-shaded streets. Ripon looks to a bright future with residents who consistently join together in improving the community.
